We’ve often heard the idea, “It is better to give than receive”. This has often left people somehow feeling shamed about receiving . Yet, consider this, if people did not also receive then who would benefit from all the giving. Let’s take a compliment for example. Do you feel a difference when a person graciously receives a compliment that you give rather than denying or brushing it away? As a receiver, we are giving. We give of our selves by being receptive. In receiving, we are also allowing the giver the complete experience of giving. Notice what you feel and where in your body you feel it when you first experience a resistance to a compliment? Now take a deep slow breath. What happens when you gratefully and graciously receive the compliment?
